ABOUT MEG LLC

Reference Material Development

Overview

MEG is an independent sample preparation laboratory that works closely with laboratories internationally to provide geochemical data for the mining and analytical industries. Certified reference material (CRM) and standard reference materials (SRM) developed in Nevada, USA are distributed worldwide. Our CRM and SRM products cover a wide range of metallic commodities (Au, Ag, Cu, Li and Pt) at variable concentrations, and from differing styles of mineralization and host rock. All reference material is characterized through rigorous inter-laboratory testing programs. Established in 1984, it is now highly regarded for its sample preparation, quality control, and geochemical interpretation.

The MEG range of CRM,  SRM, and RM's are sourced entirely from natural material deposits throughout Western North America and South America to include oxidized, disseminated, sediment-hosted gold, epithermal vein related gold or gold and silver, orogenic quartz hosted gold and porphyry style copper and copper-gold systems. Being sourced from natural deposit styles ensures our reference materials will behave similarly to field samples of similar deposit types in the lab during digestion and analysis. This allows the operator to have confidence that the assay results of their product are accurate and supports the integrity of the analytical procedure.

Preparation

MEG uses ore, soil and blank material sourced from a wide variety of naturally occurring metal grades and concentrations. Whenever possible, we manufacture SRM’s using natural material only. Many samples are analyzed for multi-element suites as it is equally important that associated elements (toxics, pathfinders, etc) are part of the SRM matrix. Geochemically blank material is important in an analytical submittal, and we produce these from barren country rock, or quartz sand.

MEG maintains a limited inventory of readily available reference materials for both internal and external use. Current inventory includes:

Gold and Silver

Porphyry Cu and Mo deposits

Copper, tungsten, cobalt, nickel, platinum, lithium, tellurium, vanadium, and uranium.

Geochemical blanks

Soil Survey Standard

Custom Reference Materials

Most reference material manufacturing is done under contract from operating mines. Run of mine ore (or other consistently low, or high grade ore) can be shipped to MEG for processing and development of a reference material (standard) specific to the deposit or mine. This process provides a match of ore characteristics and subsequent metal assemblages between the reference material and sample so that the standard is blind in the analytical submittal. For more information on developing a specific standard for a site, please contact us with your needs.
